Christmas Wassail

Monday, December 2, 2013 7:20 PM

Wassail is probably one of my favorite parts of the holiday season!  It makes the house smell incredible and, of course, also tastes marvelous & warms you right down to your toes!    I usually prepare it on the stove, and then pour it into a crockpot on low, so it stays nice and hot and ready to drink all day.

Christmas Wassail

1 gallon apple juice or cider

1/2 cup sucanat or honey (I use 50/50)

12 in (sweet) cinnamon stick

2 tsp whole allspice

2 tsp whole cloves

2 tsp orange zest

one orange cut into thin slices

In a large stockpot combine all ingredients.

Bring to a boil, stirring occasionally to make sure the sugars don’t burn

on the bottom.  Reduce heat, and simmer covered for 10 minutes.

Remove from heat, strain and enjoy!!!

I hope this recipe brings some Christmas cheer to your house, just like it does to mine!
