life on a little farm
Happy New Year! I hope yours is going terrific so far. Our year has started off with a bang! On Friday morning we walked out to the barn to feed the animals and heard little squeaking noises before we got there. We opened the door and found these three adorable little bundles waiting for us!
On Thursday morning we checked Frosty’s ligaments above her tail and they were gone, which means we should expect babies within 24 hours. So, we spent the day waiting, and checking, and waiting, and checking, and we began to wonder if we had misread the signs, because she just stood around all day looking at us, like “what’s your problem?” We checked her one last time before we went to bed, and then left our window open, so we would hear if anything was happening. We really wanted to be there when they were born....
Well, apparently Frosty had other plans, and wanted to be alone when she had her babies, because she didn’t make a peep through the whole process, and I know, because our rooster Roofio kept us awake all night long. Well... maybe not all night, but pretty close! Anyway, when we found them in the morning, the babies were all happy and healthy and exploring the barn, and Frosty seems to be in great shape, so that’s what’s really important after all. The sad news is that all three are boys. We were really hoping to keep one or two girls, but we won’t be keeping any boys.
Another piece of good news, is that a few days before all of this happened, Jessie showed signs of a good strong heat, and we were able to race her down to a buck for a “date”, and we’re hoping that she is pregnant now! Hooray!!!! We’ll be able to test her in about a week and a half to see if it took. Praying!!!
We’ve had some other big exciting things happening around here, but that will have to be another post. ; ) Hope the New Year finds you incredibly happy & blessed!

We're so happy to finally have babies, and milk too, pretty soon! You guys will have to get up here soon, before they get bigger. :)
Jenny says:
Aren’t they!?!?!? Heehee! They just look like little toys. :D

Thanks Kathy1 We’re looking forward to your visit! See you soon.

Thanks Doris! Yes, goats really do need other goats. Two goats would be enough, you just don't want one all by itself. It would be miserable, and would make you miserable. I don't know how well they would do as guards for the chickens. Maybe a little bit, but from larger predators they would need protection too.
I hope that answers your questions. If you have any other questions I would be absolutely delighted to hear from you, or just updates on how it's going with your chicken/goat/duck experience. :)
